The domain registrar Key-Systems, which currently manages more than 4 million web addresses (domains) for over 100,000 end customers, corporate customers and 2,300 resellers worldwide, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in October.
From start-up to listed company
In 1998, the success story of Key-Systems started during Alexander Siffrin's studies when he founded the company in his parental home. The Internet startup proved a feeling for the forthcoming profound changes in the Internet industry and the resulting opportunities that would arise for domain trading.
Thanks to early efforts to obtain ICANN accreditation, domaindiscount24 (dd24), a portal for the registration and administration of domains, was launched in 2000. The first step towards becoming a domain expert was taken. Due to the technical complexity and versatility of the domain business, the domain portal for resellers, RRPproxy, was launched in 2001 and BrandShelter, the corporate domain portal for companies and brand owners, was launched in 2009.
Continuous growth creates jobs
Thanks to its international success, Key-Systems GmbH was able to establish subsidiaries in the USA and Mexico. Since the relation to the Saarland headquarters was never lost, Key-Systems GmbH was also a founding member of "dotSaarland e.V.", an association supporting the application for the new Top Level Domain .saarland, in 2009.
In addition to the move to the company's own building in St. Ingbert, the foundation of the wholly-owned subsidiary SKYWAY DataCenter GmbH, the own data center at the new company headquarters, followed in 2010, and in 2011 the subsidiary KSregistry, which provides the technical operation of a registry for owners of Top Level Domains. Key-Systems founded the holding company KeyDrive S.A. in 2011. From January 2012, Moniker Online Services LLC, the US registrar, also belonged to the holding company. dotSaarland GmbH, the registry for .saarland domains, has been a 100% subsidiary since 2018. Through the merger with CentralNic Group PLC in August 2018, KeyDrive is part of a group listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange.
As a family-friendly company, Key-Systems is also a member of the corporate network "Success Factor Family" and currently employs over 100 people.
Success through teamwork
Key-Systems is growing steadily and the merger of KeyDrive S.A., the parent company of Key-Systems, and CentralNic Group PLC, in August 2018, created an even stronger company serving all major customer segments of the domain industry. The merger will allow Key-Systems to expand into additional geographic markets, add new products and provide even more comprehensive customer support in additional languages.
Nevertheless, Key-Systems focuses on teamwork. "A very good working atmosphere is important to us. In addition to creative breaks on our roof terrace, at table football, at pinball machines or at air hockey tables, extensive social benefits contribute to this", emphasizes Alexander Siffrin, founder and managing director of Key-Systems GmbH.
