The Company's History

Since its foundation in 1998 Key-Systems has grown enormously and has reached a leading market position. The company has already achieved several milestones on its long-term and successful way.

2017

  • Key-Systems acquires European Domain Centre ApS (EDC)
  • Merger of KSregistry GmbH and OpenRegistry S. A.
  • Implementation of the Verisign Name Suggestion Tool
  • Relaunch of the domaindiscount24 and RRPproxy Web Interface
  • Implementation of the RRPproxy Knowledge Base
  • SKYWAY DataCenter GmbH opens second location and backup data center in Kaiserslautern

2016

  • RRPproxy provides in cooperation with Dyn Inc. PremiumDNS including Anycast as a new feature for the KeyDNS zone management
  • Key-Systems implemented SedoMLS
  • KSregistry is the technical registry provider for .cam

2015

  • Management of more than 4.2 million domains for more than 100,000 end and corporate customers and 2,300 resellers in over 200 countries
  • Key-Systems is accredited registrar for more than 1,000 existing gTLD and ccTLD extensions
  • The cloud hosting software platform Atomia integrates RRPproxy fully into its system

2014

  • KSregistry GmbH becomes registry provider for .VG
  • New gTLDs .SKI, .ARCHI, .BIO, .DESI, .ZUERICH, .BMW, .TUI and .SAARLAND using the KSregistry solution
  • Key-Systems GmbH promotes the start of .HIV with a donation

2013

  • KSregistry GmbH becomes registry provider for .GD
  • SKYWAY DataCenter GmbH increased tenfold its capacities
  • Key-Systems celebrates 15th birthday
  • Sale of the majority share in the Polish domain registrar AZ.pl
  • Abandonment of the investment in the portal/software developer Avarteq GmbH

2012

  • Start of the cooperation between domaindiscount24.com and Google Apps, delivering domain registrations for Google Apps customers
  • Launch of the operation of .TC, .VG and .GD with Key-Systems’ registration and management platform KSregistry
  • Launch of the operation of Dominica's Top Level Domain .DM with Key-Systems’ registration and management platform KSregistry

2011

  • Management of more than 3 million domains for more than 70,000 end and corporate customers and 1,800 resellers in over 200 countries
  • Accreditation of Key-Systems as one of the first .XXX registrars worldwide
  • Launch of the Chinese version of the reseller domain portal RRPproxy
  • “Deloitte Fast 50 Technology Award” as one of the fastest growing technology companies in Germany (rank 43)
  • Fully automated registration of more than 300 top level and second level domain extensions possible, Introduction of more than 50 new domain extensions in 2011
  • Agreements with 31 new gTLD applicants for registry operation through KSregistry among those some major brands
  • Creation of the KeyDrive S.A as a new common holding for the formerly independent companies Key-Systems GmbH and NameDrive S.A.

2010

  • Fully automated registration of more than 280 top level and second level domain extensions possible
  • Management of more than 2,7 million domains for more than 70,000 end and corporate customers and 1,700 resellers in 200 countries
  • Expansion of the domain portfolio with vServers and SSL certificates
  • Take-over of the majority share in the Polish domain registrar AZ.pl
  • Investment in the Swiss/Danish internet consulting firm Thomsen Trampedach
  • Relocation of the Key-Systems headquarters from Zweibrücken to St. Ingbert in its own company building
  • 64% success rate within all pre-registrations of Key-Systems' customers during the start of General Availability of .CO
  • Rank 23 of the fastest growing technology companies in Germany according to Deloitte

2009

  • Launch of HOMER (Hosting Management Environment Repository), a web hosting solution via API gateway
  • Foundation of the US branch Key-Systems USA, Inc., based in Leesburg, Virginia, with Bonnie Wittenburg as Executive Vice President
  • Launch of BrandShelter.com, the portal for domain administration and trademark protection on the Internet
  • Acquisition of a minority interest in Key-Systems by BIP Investment Partners, a public investor listed in the Luxemburg stock exchange
  • First accredited registrar for .PE (Peru) using EPP (Extensible Provisioning Protocol)
  • Investment in the software specialist “DevKey Domainmanagement Solutions”
  • Fastest growing .TEL registrar in August, rank three of the top ten .TEL registrars worldwide and ranked number one in Germany
  • Ground-breaking ceremony for its own company building in St. Ingbert, Germany
  • Founding member of the “dotSaarland e.V.”, an association to support the application for the new top level domain .SAARLAND

2008

  • Launch of 21 new second level domain extensions (e.g. .DE.COM and .EU.COM)
  • Take-over of 100% of the shares of Key-Systems by CEO and founder Alexander Siffrin
  • 93% success rate within all pre-registrations of Key-Systems'customers during the landrush period of .ME
  • Tenth anniversary of Key-Systems
  • “Deloitte Fast 50 Technology Award” as one of the top 10 fastest growing technology companies in Germany
  • Investment in the portal/software developer Avarteq GmbH
  • 98% success rate within all pre-registrations of Key-Systems' customers during the .TEL domain sunrise

2007

  • Take-over of the former VeriSign Namestore System, migration of more than 200,000 domains to the RRPproxy platform
  • Member of advisory board for the consultation of the .EU registry

2006

  • Management of more than one million domains for end customers and resellers

2005

  • Regular appearance on the statistic portal webhosting.info among the top 15 of the largest and fastest growing ICANN registrars worldwide - in relation to the number of managed gTLD domain names

2004

  • Relocation of the Key-Systems GmbH from Bexbach (company location since 2002) to Zweibrücken

2002

  • 60% success rate within the pre-registrations during the implementation of .INFO and .BIZ
  • Key-Systems becomes one of the leading country code top level domain (ccTLD) registrars with more than 60 different domain extensions to register in real time
  • One of the leading registrars outside of China and India in the implementation process for the ccTLDs .CN (China) and .IN (India) on the international market
  • Successful participation in VeriSign's IDN testbed
  • Operation of the .CD registry for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (discontinuation of services due to political reasons in 2005)

2001

  • Participation at the first meeting and the follow-ups for the implementation of a domain .EU for Europe
  • Expansion of the dd24 offering with mail and web space
  • Launch of RRPproxy.net, the reseller portal
  • Admission of Key-Systems to the DENIC, the cooperative for the administration of the German domain extension .DE

2000

  • Launch of domaindiscount24.com (dd24), the domain portal for end customers
  • Contribution of the Key-Systems GbR (civil law association) into the Key-Systems GmbH (limited liability company)
  • ICANN accreditation

1998

  • Foundation of the Key-Systems GbR (civil law association) located in Friedrichsthal, Germany
