Last year 420 new top level domains went live. 2015 will not be less hectic. Here is the list of the 13 new domain extensions which will launch in January. All can be applied for now. 6th Jan.: .商标 (Trademark in Chinese) 8th Jan.: .موقع (Website in Arabic) 14th Jan.: .degree, .gives, .world 20th Jan.: .brussels, .vlaanderen 21st Jan.: .forsale 28th Jan.: .band, .how, .rip, .ryukyu, .space Most dot city TLDs have passed +10.000 registrations. If .brussels domains will be as popular remains to be seen. The difference here is that Brussels is the English version of Bruxelles, and dot city TLDs are for locals in general. .Vlaanderen joins other regional TLDs such as .saarland and .bzh. Their volume has been lower (around 2.500-3.500), however there's no doubt that the customer group is passionate, so these domain names will be used. Of other interesting new gTLD launches I think .rip has potential. It would make a great web address for a tribute page. I think some of the other strings lack the ability to stand out compared to what we already have or will get. It seems that the decicion to apply for many of the new domain extensions were driven by Google Keyword volumes instead of asking what value proposition can we offer a specific, highly motivated customer segment. .How is short and memorable for any "how to" manual website, however it's up against serious competitors such as YouTube and Wikipedia. .Band are some months ahead of .music, but I think it's all it's got going for it. Like launching a .spoon, when there already is a .cutlery. .forsale is another of these stats driven extensions, where I don't see the potential. Flowers.forsale, shoes.forsale etc. We live in a time of abundance. What new options will this TLD bring? Anyway, I've been wrong a couple of times before ;), so maybe there's something I overlooked. We'll see.
